The city of Hartselle will soon be taking its message to the airwaves.
As part of its new contract with Charter Communications the city will receive a channel dedicated to local news, as well as a $12,000 grant to purchase equipment for the broadcast.
Other cities have worked out similar agreements with cable providers and the channels often feature electronic bulletin boards, ads announcing meetings and vacancies on city boards. The channel will also broadcast city council meetings.
The agreement is for 10 years and also gives the city free cable service in all city and public buildings.
The city has been working to hammer out the details with Charter for several months and used outside consultants on the new contract. During negotiations, the city also received $24,513 in unpaid franchise fees from late payment receipts.
