City will soon add two weather sirens

If Hurricane Katrina had brought tornadoes or other severe weather to Hartselle, few residents would receive warnings through the city's lone siren. That will soon change, however, thanks to a grant that will provide for two additional severe weather sirens.
The $22,981 grant requires some $7,600 in matching funds from the city and will cover the cost of two alarm-only sirens.
The city briefly considered purchasing one more expensive siren that included voice alerts as well, but abandoned that plan in favor of the cheaper model.
The federal grant is provided through the Morgan County Emergency Management Agency.
Currently, the city's lone siren is near Crestline Elementary School and city officials said they are considering placing the two new ones at the city's other elementary schools.
