The Alabama Ethics Commission has closed an investigation of Hartselle High School Principal Jerry Reeves in connection with a complaint made against him to the school board several months ago, it was reported at a board meeting Thursday night.
Chairman Ronnie Abercrombie read two letters, one from board attorney Bill Shinn and the other from Charles Aldridge, chief investigator for the Ethics Commission.
"This should clear up any doubt as to the outcome of the investigation," he noted.
Shinn said the case was closed because no reasonable cause for the complaint against Reeves exists. He added that the investigation did not find that the Ethics Law had been violated.
Aldridge stated that the complaint was closed after an inquiry failed and that a sufficient cause does not exist to substantiate any further investigation.
"I appreciate the manner in which Mr. Reeves has handled this matter," said board member Kathy White Goodwin "You have been put under a good deal of pressure and you and your staff do a great job."
Board member Jeff Gray stated, "The reason we sent down the request was if the ruling came back in favor of Mr. Reeves, it would leave no doubt about his innocence and leave no innuendo about a cover-up. We need to move forward."
Abercrombie told Reeves, "We support your work."
