W. L. 'Luther' Carden

A memorial service for W. L. "Luther" Carden was Friday, Jan. 7, at 11 a.m. at Morgan's @Gardendale Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Moncrief Cemetery in Gardendale with Dr. Harold McClendon and Dr. Ronald Wilson officiating.
Rev. Carden died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, after an extended illness. He was born in Port St. Joe, Fla., on June 22, 1929, where he grew up.
He was a graduate of Howard College (now Samford University) and from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.
He was pastor of churches in Indiana and Tennessee, and was pastor of First Baptist Church in Hartselle for nearly 20 years.
He retired from Lifeway Christian Resources in Nashville in 1989 where he was editor of what is now the "Explore the Bible Series."
He moved to Gardendale in 2004. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Gardendale.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Fay Morris Carden; two sons, Byron Carden and wife Connie of Kimberly and George Carden and wife Kathi of Minneapolis, Minn.; and grandchildren, Art Carden and wife Shannon of St. Louis, Mo., Betsy Carden of Sao Paulo Brazil, Jenny-Lyn Carden of Kimberly and Anthony Carden and wife Marla of Port Huron, Mich.; and three great-grandchildren.
