Holiday calendar of events

The following is a partial list of some of the holiday events throughout the area this season. For more, see our weekly calendar and listing of church events.

The concert will feature holiday favorites, both modern and old, performed by the Wallace State Concert Choir and Singers. The choirs perform under the direction of Michael Sparks and are accompanied by instructor Deborah Chalkley. While the event is free, donations are requested to benefit the Field of Miracles. Enjoy a magical evening of holiday entertainment at Burritt on the Mountain Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 9-11, from 6:30-9 p.m.. Guests will begin in the Trillium Room with wine and hors d'oeuvres. After all guests have arrived, hosts dressed in vintage clothing will appear through the mist and guests will be led to one of the period homes or churches on the property for a fine meal, entertainment, and a visit from Old Saint Nick. The pre-tour programs for ticket holders will be presented at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m. Floral designer, Ross Railey of Etc. by Ross, will present a program on Christmas decorations. Melinda Dunn, Director of the Old State Bank, will present a program on the Albany and Old Decatur historic districts, which originally existed as two separate towns.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 on the day of the Tour. Children 10 and under are admitted free. Groups of 20 or more may purchase tickets in advance at $8 per person by contacting John Black or the Decatur/Morgan County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Advance tickets can be purchased at area merchants. Tickets are now available at Parisian, Sam Frank and Moore, Bank Street Antique Mall, The Weathervane, and The Decatur/Morgan County Convention and Visitors Bureau. On the day of the tour, tickets can be purchased only at the Old State Bank and Westminster Presbyterian Church from noon until 7 p.m.
