Holiday news from the '50s through last year.
1953 -Dec. 2, Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Debter and children of Shelbyville, Tenn., were Thanksgiving guests of Mrs. Debter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bennett.
1956 -Dec. 2, Sgt. Charles Quinn has returned to his post at Fort Jackson, S.C., after spending Thanksgiving with homefolks.
2002 -Dec. 3, Wallace State music students held their fall concert tonight in the recital hall. John Steele of Hartselle sang "Bright is the Ring of Words" by Vaughn Williams.
2003 -Dec. 3, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ritch, who run Goose Pond Farm, are experiencing brisk holiday business, selling what they raise to consumers throughout the region. All the meat they eat comes from their own farm and they barter with their Hartselle vicinity neighbors for pesticide-free fruits, vegetables and organic milk.
1999 -Dec. 4, Charles (Charley) Stewart, 91, bagged a 5-point deer today, dropping it from a distance about the length of a football field.
2003 -Dec. 5, The Hartselle First Baptist Church is collecting artificial Christmas trees, lights, ornaments, decorations, ribbon, wrapping paper, etc., to donate to Limestone Correctional Facility. Edith Bennich coordinates this project.
1953 -Dec. 6, The MCHS band was one of five bands participating in the Decatur Christmas parade this afternoon.
1956 -Dec. 6, The Christmas parade in Hartselle tonight included six floats and was enjoyed by a crowd estimated at between 5,000-7,000. The MCHS band was in fine form under the direction of Hollis James.
1954 -Dec. 7, The Christmas season began roughly for Katherine Anne Dunaway, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Dunaway, who sustained back injuries in an auto accident about six miles north of Hartselle last night. She is presently confined to Hartselle Hospital under the care of Dr. Claude Lavender.
1956 -Dec. 8, Members of the Current Review Club are busy getting ready for their upcoming Christmas event. The hostesses will be Mrs. E. R. Roberts and Mrs. Jack Hoffhaus. Mrs. John Guier and Mrs. Horace Broom will present the program, entitled "The Birth of Christ in Story and Song."
