There is something in the air. A feeling that overtakes you every year about this time.
It's the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Christmas Open House in Hartselle was Nov. 7 and all of the participating merchants, as well as the shoppers, had a good day.
The weather was wonderful, bargains abounded and Santa had a line of anxious, sometimes nervous and scared, children lined up to tell him their Christmas wishes.
That was just the start! There is so much more to come, so mark your calendars now for more upcoming holiday events.
Thanksgiving is only a week away, a special time to give thanks for many things, eat an excessive amount of food, be with friends and family, watch the parades and ballgames and fall asleep in the recliner.
Then, get up the next day and shop till you drop. Just remember to shop in Hartselle first and support your business owners, their employees and the city with sales tax revenue. It all trickles down to the bottom line – Hartselle.
Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. the Hartselle Christmas Parade will be parading through downtown Hartselle. Come listen to the bands, watch the twirlers, gaze upon the floats, and watch the horses as they lead Santa in on the big fire truck. Applications to participate in the parade, sponsored by the Hartselle Kiwanis Club, can be picked up at the Chamber office on Railroad Street. The deadline for entries is Nov. 29.
Saturday, Dec. 4 is full of evening activities during "A Christmas Walk" in downtown Hartselle. The shops extend their hours of business until 7 p.m. and welcome shoppers. Carolers will be in the area strolling and singing. This is a great opportunity to see the Christmas decorations and lights as you get some of your holiday shopping done.
The Christmas Tour of Homes is the same evening from 4 – 8 p.m. Come stroll Barkley Street or take a carriage ride through downtown (free with a tour ticket) and see how different homes in Hartselle celebrate Christmas.
Tickets for the Tour of Homes are $6 and are available at the Depot. There will be a few food vendors down by the Depot from 5-8 p.m., so come on down and eat here or with one of our fine restaurants.
A Silent Wreath Auction will take place inside the Depot. The auction begins at 5 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m. So place your bids, watch them close and take your wreath home with you.
During this holiday season remember to shop with local merchants, with your friends and neighbors, and with those that invest their time and money in Hartselle so that everyone has a great holiday season.
