Top runners will be showcased in Hartselle – Walker clash

By Staff
Staff Reports, Hartselle Enquirer
Two of the state's top running backs will be showcased this Friday in the Hartselle at Walker 5A, Region 8 clash.
Walker features junior Slyvester Stewart, 5-foot-9 165-pounds, who has run for over 400 yards in three games. He rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns, in the Vikings 35-13 defeat of Cullman two weeks ago.
Hartselle counters with senior Justin Youngblood. Youngblood has gained over 100 yards in each of the Tigers games, including 196 yards and two scores against Russellville last week.
"Slyvester is as good a back as I've coached," Walker coach Bubba Davis said. "But I don't think we've seen a back as good as Youngblood this season. He'll challenge our defense. I hope we find a way to slow him down."
Bob Godsey said he was impressed with Stewart and the Viking ground game, but the Walker defense has caught his attention.
"They are athletic and they run to the ball well,' Godsey said. "They have two shutouts and they've played some good teams. That's pretty impressive."
Davis was impressed with the Tigers preformance against Russellville.
"Russellville usually wears you down," Davis said. "They didn't wear out and stayed in the game. That tells me they're very good."
