Instructor: Work needed at tennis courts

By Staff
Courts haven't been resurfaced in more than a decade
Hartselle tennis camp instructor Danny Light said that improvements are needed to the Hartselle tennis facility prior to the opening of the week-long tennis camp.
Uneven court surfaces, drainage problems and courts that face the sun part of the day are among the problems cited by Light.
"The courts haven't been resurfaced in 12 or 13 years," Light said. "They aren't level anymore."
"Some times I have to come in here with a broom," Light said. "So much garbage collects in here after it rains and the courts are covered with trash."
Light stated that four of the six courts face the sun during the later part of the day making them unplayable.
"Four of the courts face the sun," Light said. "At about 4 p.m. you can't see anything. The are impossible to play."
Light says that the majority of players in Hartselle leave town to play because of the conditions the local courts are in. Light says the city of Hartselle doesn't have the estimated $150,000 needed to build new courts.
