Cattleman of the Year

The Morgan County Cattlemen's Association recently selected Wayne Hicks of Hartselle as the Morgan County Cattleman of the Year. A plaque was presented to Hicks by Charles Ritch at the annual Cattlemen's banquet held Jan. 10 at Hartselle High School cafeteria. Hicks operates a commercial cow-calf (Angus/Angus cross) herd on Mt. Tabor Road, east of Hartselle. He is the son of the late Webster and Ida Bell Hicks and is a graduate of Morgan County High School, Florence State College and Athens State College. He and his wife, Betty, have been married 37 years and have one daughter, Laura, who teaches school in Florida. Hicks is retired from the Decatur Housing Authority and the Morgan County Board of Education. He is currently a deacon at Hartselle Church of Christ, a director of the Morgan County Cattlemen's Association, a director for the Morgan Farmers' Co-op in Hartselle and Decatur, a member of the Alabama Beef Cattle Improvement Association, and a member of the American Angus Association.
