Kristin Bramlett ready for next step

FLORETTE – She appears to have it all – Maturity, smarts, character and athleticism.
The University of Alabama-Huntsville should feel lucky to have her.
Kristen Bramlett made it official last week, signing a scholarship with the UAH volleyball team. A senior at Brewer High School, Bramlett had her pick of more than 14 colleges to attend.
"My dream is to get the best education possible and enjoy the best times of my life through volleyball," Bramlett said in an essay inside her resume. "I am up to the challenge of balancing my life, schooling and sport with responsibility and maturity."
So far, she's done just that.
Bramlett, an outside hitter/libero, holds a 3.85 GPA and scored a 29 on her ACT. She's a member of the National Honor Society, Scholar's Bowl and has been on the A/B Honor Roll in every semester of high school.
But UAH wanted her for her volleyball skills as much as her academic skills.
Here are some of her accomplishments in 2003:
Bramlett also has participated in Junior Olympics Volleyball for six years with a team based out of Huntsville. She played for NASA (North Alabama Spiker's Association) for five years, traveling to Indianapolis, Tampa, Nashville, Birmingham and Murfreesboro, Tennessee, among other places.
As a high school junior, Bramlett played on an 18 and under team composed of Brewer High School seniors who competed in the Alabama Sports Festival in Mobile. The team won its division.
Bramlett returned to the Alabama Sports Festival this year with a Brewer team who won the 18 and under division for a second straight year.
The list goes on and on for Bramlett, as she has taken time to help at a summer day camp. She attended Pine Hill Day Camp from when she was four years old, and since ninth grade, has been employed by the camp. She works as a junior counselor with the five and six year olds.
She also works out with a personal trainer, Matt Givens, at Family Fitness Center in Decatur during her off season.
Statistically in 2003, Bramlett helped a Brewer team go 29-8. She had 330 kills – an average of nine per match – and 96 aces. She had 282 digs, including a 25-dig match against Red Bay. Her serve percentage was at 90 percent, as was her reception percent.
