HHS hosting band festival this weekend
Staff Reports, Hartselle Enquirer
Marching bands from throughout North Alabama will be making music in Hartselle this weekend.
The Hartselle High School Band will be sponsoring its eighth annual Southern Hospitality Marching Festival on Saturday, Oct. 11. The festival will be held at J. P. Cain Stadium and begins at 10:15 a.m. with Hartselle Junior High School Band playing the "Star Spangled Banner."
The first band in competition begins at 10:30 a.m. Admission is $5 and children are admitted free. This year's festival will feature 22 bands from throughout North Alabama and one band from Murfreesboro, Tenn.
A panel of adjudicators will judge the bands on their playing, marching and the general effectiveness of the band's show. Judges will also be evaluating the majorettes, percussion, color guard, field commanders and dance teams of each group.
At the conclusion of the festival, an awards presentation will be held and trophies will be given to all bands that receive superior ratings. The best bands by division will be given the Best-in-Class awards and, beginning this year, the Hospitality Challenge Cup will be awarded. A band must win three consecutive years in order to keep the challenge cup. The challenge cup is being presented by the city of Hartselle Mayor's office and the Hartselle City Council.
"The Southern Hospitality Festival has grown each year in attendance, and the band boosters and supporters of the Hartselle junior and senior high school bands are excited about another record number in attendance for the 2003 festival," Hartselle High School Director of Bands Dexter Greenhaw said.
