Each year, approximately 1,800 students from throughout the Southeast apply to The University of Alabama to be members of the Alabama Honors Band. Students are selected based on their placement and the quality of their high school band, along with their own musical achievements. HHS band members selected for Alabama Honors Band are Megan Bartlett, Ian Greenhaw, Justin Dobbs, Sarah Paulos, Kirk Goodwin, and Christa Ward.
District Band Festival was held at Decatur High School on Feb. 27-28. The Hartselle Concert Band received all superior ratings at district qualifying the band to perform at the Alabama Bandmaster's State Competition. The concert band performed at Samford University on March 19, where they received all superior ratings from the judges. Each band has seven minutes to prepare the piece and then perform for the judge, where they are scored on their ability to play the piece the way the composer intended.
A spring concert will be held May 13 at the Princess Theatre featuring junior high and beginning concert bands, high school jazz band, and concert bands.
