5 PHS athletes qualify for state
Priceville High School has qualified five of its boys varsity track and field athletes for the 4A-6A State Track and Field Meet in Gulf Shores May 4-5.
The team competed in the Class 4A Section 4 Meet at Bob Jones High School Friday and Saturday. State qualifiers are Nick Bell, Tyler Johnson, Tim Rayman, Jared Gunn and Thomas Johnson.
Bell qualified in the 100m dash, placing second and setting a new school record.
Rayman placed second and qualified in the 800m run.
Johnson came in third in the 1600m hurdles and third in the 3200m run with a school record time and qualified in both events. Johnson placed third in both the 1600m and 3200m runs, set a new school record and qualified in both events. The team’s 4x800m relay team, consisting of Jarod Gunn, T. Johnson, Rayman and T. Johnson, qualified by placing fifth.
PHS’s track team members set new school records in nine different events during the season, according to coach David Estes.
