Funeral for Cecelia Irene Gordon, 79, of Hartselle was Wednesday, May 16, at 1 p.m. at Annunciation Church with Fr. Ray Remke officiating.
Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur.
Mrs. Gordon was the sixth of seven children born to Polish immigrants Bronislaw and Stella Albinski in Midland, Pa. on June 14, 1927. She moved to Decatur in 1963 with her husband, Carver, and four children. She worked as church secretary at First Christian Church and ward clerk at Decatur General Hospital, and finally retired in 1989 after many years as a clerk for the Morgan County Commission’s office. She was a longtime member and past president of the Ladies Sodality at St. Ann’s Catholic Church and sang in the church choir for more than 35 years. She was a charter member and past president of St. Ann’s 50-Plus Club and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus. She was known for her beautiful singing voice and her delicious cakes, cookies and homemade candies, but will best be remembered as a devoted wife and mother. She and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June 2002. Since a debilitating stroke that same year, she had been partially paralyzed and struggling with ill health.
She is survived by her husband, Carver Wycliffe Gordon of Hartselle; a son, Russell Gordon of Hartselle; three daughters, Marilyn Gowan of Statesboro, Ga., Alesia Boston of Caddo and Julie Collier of Ashford; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Blanche Marciniak of Pennsylvania.
Pallbearers were Joshua Gordon, Matthew Boston, Robert Boston, Jon Minnon, Gene Basham and Jim Pence.
