A Hartselle woman and her boyfriend are facing charges of manufacturing methamphetamine after Decatur Police responded to a criminal mischief report at her grandmother’s residence.

On April 23, authorities responded to 5243 Danville Road in Hartselle for a criminal mischief report. While at the residence, officers smelled a chemical odor associated with methamphetamine manufacturing.

The owner of the residence then gave officers consent to search her residence and property.

Officers saw a two liter bottle that had been used as a reaction vessel in a methamphetamine cook in the trash can at the residence. Officers further observed that the bottle contained the hazardous remnants from a previous cook.

The owner of the residence then showed officers a bedroom that her granddaughter, Kristi Danielle Thurman, 34, and her boyfriend, Jerry Eugene Burk II, 33, had been living in for the past several months.

Officers observed additional items that are associated with the manufacturing of methamphetamine in Thurman’s and Burk’s bedroom.

After obtaining a search warrant for the residence, additional items were found in the bedroom including drug paraphernalia. Due to the fact that Thurman and Burk were not present during the search felony warrants were obtained for both suspects on charges of unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance first degree.

On April 30, the two suspects were located at the Stay Lodge on U.S. 31 South and were arrested.

Both suspects are being held in the Morgan County Jail on a $5,000 bond each.
