Funeral for Robert Dare Sittason Jr., 83, of Hartselle will be Thur., April 12, at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Robert Sparkman and Bobby Ray Halbrooks officiating.

Visitation will be Wed., April 11, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home and the body will lie in state at the church for 30 minutes prior to the service.

Dr. Sittason died Mon., April 9, 2012, at his residence. He was born June 27, 1928, in Morgan County to Robert Dare Sittason Sr. and Glenn Garrison Sittason.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hartselle where he served on various committees for many years, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Hartselle Rotary Club for over 50 years. He was a board member of the Morgan County Sports Hall of Fame, which supports the Boys and Girls Club, and served as a Meals on Wheels volunteer. He loved sports and was a charter member of the Hartselle Athletic Booster Club.

Dr. Sittason graduated from Decatur High School in 1946 and attended The University of Alabama where he earned a degree in geology in 1952. He later graduated from the Alabama School of Dentistry in Birmingham and started his family dentistry practice in Hartselle in 1957. He continued the practice for 36 years, retiring in 1993.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Wendellyn “Wyn” Gray Sittason and his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Coleman Sittason of Hartselle; three sons, Randall Gray Sittason of Madison, Robert Dare Sittason III and wife Daphne and Dr. David Bryant Sittason and wife Jennifer, all of Hartselle; six grandchildren, Payton Bryant Sittason, Raley McAnn Sittason, Grayson Blair Sittason, Madeline Gray Sittason, Mary Sloan Sittason and Wendellyn Grace Sittason; two stepsons, John Coleman and wife Donna of Madison and Steve Coleman and wife Casey of Decatur; a stepdaughter, Gina Williams of Gulf Shores; six stepgrandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandson.

Pallbearers will be Charles “Boonie” Russell, Stuart “Tater” Nesmith, Payton Bryant Sittason, Grayson Blair Sittason, Tommy Owen Raley and James Kevin Corum.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hartselle First United Methodist Church, Decatur-Morgan County Community Free Clinic, or Hospice of the Valley.
