HHS wrestlers place in tourney

Two members of Hartselle High School‘s varsity wrestling team placed among the top 10 competitors in their weight classes at the Huntsville Invitational Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.

Junior Clint Bender placed third in the 195-pound class and David Dunford came in seventh in the 125-pound class.

The meet was Hartselle’s first of the season. It attracted wrestlers from 16 high schools in Alabama and Tennessee.

“Our team is still young, with only one senior and four juniors,” said Hartselle high wrestling coach Chris Wimberley. “Although we have a lot of eight and ninth graders, they all are back from last year and this meet gave them the opportunity to measure the progression they’ve made form last year. “I feel like we’re in a position to be more competitive this season.

The Tigers will compete in the Pelham Invitational Tournament Friday and Saturday.
