Jack’s on agenda for planning commission

Jack’s restaurant appears like it will be coming back to Hartselle in the near future, as the Hartselle Planning Commission will be deciding on two items that will affect the proposed property of the restaurant.

City Planner Jeremy Griffith said the company has been negotiating with property owners of the old Pineview Hospital, which is located just south of Walmart on U.S. 31, to purchase an acre of land at that location. To that end, they are asking the Planning Commission to grant approval to subdivide that property to give Jack’s the opportunity to purchase that land.

Also, the site plan for the proposed restaurant will be up for approval.

“It was on the Planning Commission’s agenda for the November meeting earlier this month, but there was still some title work that needed to be done,” Griffith said. “I don’t think they want to purchase the property unless the Planning Commission approves this action.”

Griffith said Jack’s has been looking for a location for a while and city leaders have been talking to the company for more than a year.

Griffith thinks the reason why Jack’s chose this property is due to a high traffic volume and it already has a median cut for cars to cross the highway.

“Walmart has a high traffic volume and that’s something they’re looking for,” Griffith said. “This location gives them a turn lane going northbound on 31. Those are some of the things they’ve been considering.”

Griffith added that Jack’s may still need to get approval from the Alabama Department of Transportation to install a right turn lane on the southbound side of U.S. 31.

“They’ve alredy been talking to ALDOT about that,” he said.
