Matthew Wyatt McGough of Hartselle received the Eagle Scout Award from the Boy Scouts of America on Oct. 16.

A Court of Honor was held for the award presentation. Alabama State Rep. Ed Henry, R-Hartselle, was on hand to present the Award to McGough.

McGough is a member of BSA Troop 77 chartered by Fairview Church of God serving the Hartselle and Falkville communities. He is also a member of the Boy Scout Explorer Program with the Decatur Fire Department and serves as a lieutenant at Post 7911.

His Eagle Scout service project was done for Wheeler National Refuge in Decatur, in which he did improvements on the Flint Creek Walking Trail. Some of the highlights of his scouting adventures include whitewater rafting on the Ocoee River, wilderness campouts, Scout summer camp and attending the BSA National Sea Base at Key West, Fla.

In addition, McGough has participated in several color guards for Veterans Day, Fourth of July and flag retirement ceremonies. His current position with the troop is junior assistant scoutmaster.

McGough is the son of Rob and Julie McGough of Hartselle.
