Tigers hand Hawks first loss, 38-37

The Hartselle Tigers are the first team to defeat the Danville Hawks on the basketball floor this season.
The Tigers held on for a 38-37 win behind strong defense and 10 points from senior Keith Rodgers.
Danville's Nate Orr had a game high 13 points to pace the visiting Hawks.
Hartselle led by three at the half, 17-14.
Daxton Maze added nine points for the Tigers.
The win upped the Hartselle record to 3-4 on the year, while Danville slipped to 6-1.
Lady Tigers roll
Shan Jones scored 20 points to pace the Lady Tigers to a 22-point win over the Lady Hawks, 51-29.
Hartselle jumped out to a 18-3 lead after one period and coasted home to their fifth win in six starts.
Danville closed with 14 at halftime, but Hartselle built a 24-point lead after three periods.
In the fourth period, Hartselle coach Greg Adams emptied his bench.
For Hartselle, Jones was followed by Lauren Drake with nine points.
Mary Virginia Reeves added seven, Shauntee Smith, Anna Reeves and Tiffahne Orr scored four points each.
Hilary Dukes added three more Hartselle points.
Danville was led by Megan Linderman and Bethany Evans with nine points each.
Jessica Hazel had three points, while Haley Hensley, Lauren Simmons and Emily Templeton had two points each.
The win helps both Hartselle teams in the seeding for the Morgan County Basketball Tournament in January.
The teams with the best records against county schools receive the highest seed, with the possibility of receiving a bye into the semi-finals.
Both teams return to action Friday night as Hartselle hosts Muscle Shoals and Danville hosts Vinemont.
