The Hartselle Enquirer was named the best large weekly newspaper in the state last week in the Alabama Press Association's Better Newspaper Contest.
The award is the top honor handed out each year by the APA.
"This is a great honor and one we're proud to receive," Publisher Leada DeVaney said. "It's always nice to get a pat on the back from your peers, but it's even better to see the staff accomplish something they've worked so hard for."
The Enquirer won 14 other awards in the Better Newspaper Contest, including:
Last month, the Enquirer won the Sweepstakes Award, the top honors, in the APA's Advertising Contest.
Seventy-six newspapers submitted 2,913 entries as part of the annual contest, which was judged by the Florida Press Association.
Papers compete in four divisions: large dailies, small dailies, large weeklies and small weeklies. The Enquirer's sister paper, the Madison County Record, won third place General Excellence in the small weekly division and was named the state's most improved small weekly newspaper.
The Better Newspaper Contest awards will be presented July 24 at the APA's 133rd annual summer convention.
