Hartselle's City Council is hoping new landscaping requirements will help save the city's natural resources and make the area more attractive.
The council approved an amendment to its existing zoning ordinance last week. The changes would effect any new business opening in the city.
The purpose of the amendment, according to the resolution passed by the council, is to "provide…safeguards against the excessive depletion of environmental resources in Hartselle."
The new regulations cover a variety of topics, including the number of trees and shrubs that must be planted to where grass should be sewed. The regulations stipulate:
