Ira C. 'Tom' Penwell

A celebration of life for Ira C. "Tom" Penwell, 92, of Falkville was Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer Freewill Baptist Church with the Revs. Robert Morgan and Gary Miller officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery.
Mr. Penwell died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born May 25, 1911, in Morgan County to John Barton Penwell and Mary Sig Eady Penwell. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Vergie Brown Penwell, a daughter, Betty Moveline King, a son, Don Penwell and six grandchildren.
He is surived by his wife of 12 years, Virgie Chaney Penwell; one son, Roy Biffel Penwell and wife Mary Nelle of Lebanon, Ohio; four daughters, Linda Holmes and husband, Jerry of Akron, Ohio, Pat Phillips and husband, Leroy of Akron, Ohio, Betty Sue Penwell and Steve Sandlin of Falkville, and Gretchen Moore and husband, Jim Hartselle; four stepsons, Hal Chaney and his wife, Blanche of Hartselle, Steve Chaney and his wife, Denise of Lacon, John Chaney and his wife, Janice of West Point, and Bob Chaney and his wife, Wanda of Cole Springs; one stepdaughter, Judy Stiles and husband. Jeff of Eva; 17 grandchildren; 22 stepgrandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; and numerous friends and relatives.
Pallbearers were Bob Chaney, Hal Chaney, Mike Lloyd, Jerry Holmes, Buck Anders and Tommy Barnett.
