Funeral for Roy Lyle McAllister, 75, of Gardendale was Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 11 a.m. at Morgans @ Gardendale Funeral Home with the Rev. Leon Zalenski and the Rev. Richard Coggins officiating.
Burial was in Morris Cemetery.
Mr. McAllister died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003. He was former president of the Decatur Chamber of Commerce and former adjunct instructor of English at Athens State College. He was a veteran of World War II and a United States Air Force Sergeant. He later earned a commission. He was a retired captain of the United States Air Force Reserve. He was honored as "Individual of the Year" by the Jefferson County Office of Senior Citizen Activities in 1994 for working in support of senior citizens throughout the state. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Gardendale.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy McAllister of Gardendale; four sons, Billy R. McAllister of Pinson, Dick W. McAllister of Atlanta, Ga., Jim C. McAllister of Austin, Texas, and Don R. McAllister of Trussville; two brothers, Charles McAllister of Birmingham and Cecil McAllister of Tuscaloosa; and seven grandchildren, Amanda, Brian, Joel, James, Adam, Sarah and Caleb.
