Special things for September

Depot Days, Frontier Days and horse festival top month's offerings
There are plenty of things to do in the coming month, thanks to three major local events.
Hartselle's Depot Days will kick off Sept. 21 at 6:30 p.m. with the annual Community Worship Service. The event will be held at the First United Methodist Church and the speaker will be announced. Music will be provided by the Community Mass Choir.
On Sept. 22, Down Memory Lane will be held at the Station from 6:30-8 p.m. This year's theme is "When Cotton Was King."
On Sept. 23, the Depot Days Concert will be held Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. The event will include the "More Life Tour" featuring New Song and introducing Todd Agnew. The event will be held at Hartselle High School's Tiger Stadium.
The Depot Days festival will be held Sept. 27 starting at 8 a.m. The event will include an art show, crafts, 5K and one mile run, entertainment, storytelling and puppet show, food, rides, trains, antique tractors, gasoline engines, games, car, truck and motorcycle show, family fun, street dance and more.
In Priceville, horse fans across America will gather for the 32nd annual Racking World Horse Celebration on Sept. 19-27.
Participants will compete for more than $100,000 in prize money. The 151 class national points show will be held at the Celebration Arena on Highway 67.
The nine-day event marks the end of the show season for the racking horse industry and is the largest event in the show schedule. It culminates with the naming of the World's Grand Champion.
The World Celebration is expected to attract more than 2,000 horses and riders of all ages for competition in lead line, juvenile, amateurs and professional classes. Some 100,000 spectators are expected to attend the show.
Also, an official Racking Horse sale will be held Sept. 26 at 10 a.m.
September's festivities include the annual Eva Frontier Days on Sept. 20-27.
The town, believed to be named after the daughter of the area's first postmaster, will celebrate its early American heritage during the event.
Sponsored by the town of Eva and the Eva Art Guild, fun for the whole family will begin with a bluegrass festival featuring the Hurricane Creek Band on Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m. Admission to the concert is $5. The concert will be presented at Eva Ballpark.
Old-fashioned hayrides will be offered Sept. 23 beginning at 6:30 p.m. while a community singing is scheduled for Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
Sept. 27 will feature a full slate of special events, including an antique tractor show; a parade at 11 a.m.; live entertainment at noon and 2 p.m.; a cross-cut saw contest at 1 p.m.; a baking contest at 11 a.m. (cash awards); a pig calling contest at 3:15 p.m.; a frog jumping contest at 4 p.m.; a greased pig chase at 5 p.m.; and all-day arts, crafts and fun.
