Danville’s Layla Sherrill tops 100 career goals

Danville freshman Layla Sherrill has become a record-breaking machine in her short time as a starter for the Danville Lady Hawks soccer team. She recently surpassed 100 career goals after scoring three first half goals in a 4-0 win over Geraldine. She finished the game with four goals and 103 for her career.

The next night in a 5-4 loss to Susan Moore, she broke the school’s single season scoring record with three more goals giving her 50 through 14 games this season. The previous record was 48 goals.

Sherrill led Danville (9-3-2) to two wins in three games last week, scoring 11 goals. She had five goals in a 10-0 win over Pennington. Seventh grader Brylee Terry added four goals in the Lady Hawks three games.

Brewer 2, Ardmore 0
The Lady Patriots had goals from sophomore Finlee Hardy and freshman Aubrie Irmen in a 2-0 win over Ardmore this past week.

Brewer 2, West Limestone 1
Reese Mitchell netted two goals in a 2-1 win over West Limestone helping Brewer improve to 5-3-1 on the season.

Boys
Danville 1, JB Pennington 0

The Hawks picked up their first win of the season with a 1-0 win over JB Pennington. Huntley Seagars scored the game-winner for Danville off an assist from Edward Ocampo. Goal keeper Nathan West had 19 saves to secure the shutout.
