Tigers’ season ends in sub-regional loss to Buckhorn

The Hartselle Tigers season came to an end with a 70-43 sub-regional loss at top-ranked Buckhorn this past Saturday. The Tigers struggled offensively in the first half as they only had nine points at halftime, trailing 29-9. They found some offense in the second half, scoring 15 in the third quarter and 19 in the fourth but it was too late.

Senior Rylan Smothers finished his career with 19 points and four rebounds to lead Hartselle. Ty Odom added 13 points, while senior Kohl Key had six points and four assists.

Smothers finished the season as Hartselle’s leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 14.2 points 6.6 rebounds per game. He finished with 786 total points for his career. Odom was second on the team in scoring at 14.0 points, while Key was third with 7.8.

Fred Derrick had 15 points to lead Buckhorn, while Caleb Holt scored 12 points.

Cullman 54, Hartselle 42
The Tigers finished runner-up in the 6A Area 14 tournament for the third consecutive season with a 54-42 loss at Cullman. Cullman led 15-8 after the first quarter and 28-22 at the half. Hartselle was outscored 26-20 in the second half.

Smothers finished with 18 points to lead the Tigers. Odom had 14 points, while Key added six points and a team-high five rebounds.
