Hartselle wrestlers qualify for state championships

The Hartselle wrestling team had a tremendous showing at the North Super sectional this past weekend in Birmingham.

“I thought we wrestled very well,” said head coach Joe Hill. “We had two individual champions, two runner-ups, three thirds and three fifth-place finishers. We hope to use this momentum to propel us to a strong finish at the state tournament this weekend in Huntsville.”

The team finished third overall behind Mortimer Jordan and Gardendale.

The Tigers had 10 wrestlers qualify for this week’s state championships at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville. Gage Roberts (126lbs) and Jameson Falciani (182lbs) finished first in their weight class to advance.

Joining Roberts and Falciani in qualifying for the championships are Jackson Schutt (113), Lincoln Bryant (132), Jacob Doshier (106), Garrett Willingham (145), Peyton Roberts (152), Ethan England (138), Gage Ownby (160) and Andrii Tymchenko (170).

The championship matches will be held Feb.16-18.
