The Junior League of Morgan County started with a cookbook in 1972, and the organization is still going strong.
In recognition of the 50th anniversary of its Cotton Country cookbook, the Junior League of Morgan County will host a celebratory event at the Decatur Country Club May 5 at 6 p.m.  

Written in 1972 with a global circulation of more than 200,000, Cotton Country serves as a timeless reminder of the art of Southern hospitality. Featuring generational recipes lovingly and painstakingly sourced from across the Morgan County community, the cookbook has earned its place as a staple in home kitchens, renowned restaurants and celebratory registries.  

All proceeds from Cotton Country have benefited organizations that impact the welfare of women and children in Morgan County, including Parents and Children Together, Hands Home for the Morgan County System of Services and the Decatur Morgan Hospital Mammography Center.  

To pay homage to the legacy of the cookbook and the many lives that have been touched as a result of its publication, the Junior League of Morgan County will welcome all original cookbook authors and esteemed guests for an evening of reminiscing, celebration and anticipation for the next 50 years of Cotton Country Cooking to come.  

The evening will feature a historical diorama display from key contributor Betty Sims, a silent auction, a Kendra Scott Gives Back Pop Up Shop and an Exclusive Cookbook Edition for sale.
