Hartselle grad rises to Hairstylist of Year

A Moulton hairstylist has won USA Hairstylist of the Year for 2021.

Detra Smith, owner of Hannah & Me in Moulton, received the recognition this past month during the Hair Awards USA ceremony.

A graduate of Hartselle High School, Smith studied at the Master’s Cosmetology Institute in Huntsville and interned under Ann and Gary Bray.

She has worked for Matrix, Olivia Garden and as the artistic director for Hot Tools. She styled hair for New York City Fashion Week and participated in runway shows for Prabal Gurung, Heidi Elnora, “Project Runway” alums Anthony Ryan Auld, Joshua McKinley, Johnathan Kayne, Gunner Deatherage, Laura Kathleen, Michelle Lesniak and more.
