Hartselle senior signs to play softball at Auburn-Montgomery

Hartselle senior softball player Karsi Lentz has signed with Auburn University at Montgomery to play softball at the next level.

“This is always something I have dreamed of,” said Lentz. “I am thankful for my mom and family who put in the time to allow me to play the game of softball and accomplish my dream.”

This past season, Lentz was a Class 6A first-team All-State selection after hitting a school-record 17 home runs. She finished with a .417 batting average and 62 RBIs while scoring 45 runs. She also had a 7-4 pitching record with 63 strikeouts in 74.1 innings pitched.

The highlight of her junior season was in the loser’s bracket of the area tournament when she finished with two home runs and seven RBIs in the Lady Tigers’ 11-5 win over Muscle Shoals.

Eric Newell coaches the NCAA Division II Warhawks. He has been with AUM since 2015. He led them to their second consecutive NAIA National Championship in his first season with the Warhawks. This past season, he led them to a school-record 40-7 mark and was ranked as high as No. 3.

The Warhawks play in the Gulf South Conference with Alabama-Huntsville, Montevallo, and West Alabama.
