Lady Tigers open season with win over Gadsden City

The Hartselle Lady Tigers opened the 2021-22 season at the Hazel Green Tip-Off Tourney with a 47-38 win over 7A Gadsden City.  

The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 14-9 first-quarter lead as Masyn Marchbanks and Emma Roden each scored four points. Maggie McCleskey and Kaitlyn Hogan each hit a three-pointer to help build the lead. 

The Lady Tigers pushed the lead to 31-16 at halftime. Marchbanks and Gracie Hill each scored six points to lead the team in the second quarter. 

In the third quarter, the Lady Titans outscored Hartselle 11-5 to cut the lead to 36-27. The teams played even in the fourth, 11-11, to make the final 47-38. 

Marchbanks finished with 19 points to lead the Lady Tigers. Hill added nine points, with two three-pointers. In her first game since the 2019-20 season, Hogan had six points on two three-pointers. 

Ajainay Tinker had 15 points to lead the Lady Titans. Jaedyn Sharp and Tameah Gaddis each had seven points. 

Hartselle (1-0) travels to Madison Academy Tuesday night and will open the home schedule on Nov. 16 by hosting Austin.
