Bobby’s advances to Flavorful Four

Special to the Enquirer

Who rules the roost? Bama’s Best Chicken Tenders Contest has been narrowed down to a flock of four, and a Morgan County restaurant is among the businesses vying for the title.

Online voting determined the Flavorful Four finalists, which include Bobby’s Restaurant in Eva. Other finalists are The Chicken Shack in Luverne, Crowe’s Chicken in Brundidge and J’s Hole in the Wall in Bryant.

Bobby’s garnered nearly 450 votes in the online contest.

“Bobby’s is great,” Marc Harris commented on Facebook. “Awesome food and even better people.”

Myra Campbell agreed, commenting “Winners all the way,” on the contest’s post.

“These four finalists definitely have something to crow about,” said Russ Durrance, Alabama Farmers Federation Poultry Division director. “They obviously have hundreds, even thousands, of loyal customers who love their chicken tenders, and the farmers we represent are glad to do their part to provide a tasty product to these restaurants.”

Judges will determine the overall winner after visiting each of the Flavorful Four restaurants in mid-July to taste test their best chicken tender meal.

The winner will receive a plaque, cash prize and features in Neighbors magazine and on Simply Southern TV.

Nominations for the contest were accepted on the Alabama Farmers Federation’s Facebook page May 26 through June 9. Restaurants with the most nominations made it into the Edible Eight round, and those that garnered the most votes, or “likes,” in the photo album on Simply Southern TV’s Facebook page made it into the Flavorful Four.

Votes were accepted June 14-21.

Other Edible Eight semi-finalists were Hanceville Exxon in Hanceville, Tenders Restaurant in Huntsville, Walters’ Gas and Grill in Opelika and Wildcat Cafe in Guntersville.

“We’re so thankful for the restaurant owners, chefs, cooks and other staff who work so hard to create delicious dishes using chicken,” said Durrance. “We encourage folks to stop in at each of these establishments, taste-test the chicken tenders and judge for yourself.”

Bama’s Best Chicken Tenders contest is sponsored by the Federation’s Poultry Division, whose members raise healthy, lean, delicious protein.

The Alabama Farmers Federation is the state’s largest farm organization with more than 350,000 member families. For more information about the Poultry Division, visit AlfaFarmers.org.
