Area churches observe Decoration

Several area churches are observing Decoration Day this month.

Mt. Vernon Congregational Methodist Church will hold its Decoration program May 9 at 10:30 a.m., and there will not be an afternoon service. Pastor Glenn McCain is undergoing cancer treatments.

The McKendree and Herring Cemetery Decoration Day will be May 9, as well. Brother Darrell Moseley will conduct the worship service at McKendree United Methodist Church at 10:45 a.m.

Corinth West Congregational Methodist Decoration will be May 16 at 10:30 a.m. The church will have lunch in the fellowship building and an afternoon song service using the redback hymnal.

Corinth West’s Decoration program committee included Roxanne Asherbranner, Jamie Troutman, Susan Shedd, Thomas Wilhite and Melanie Maddox, and pastor Wayne Jetton will conduct the service.

Summerford Nursing Home Activities

The staff at Summerford Nuring Home will celebrate National Nursing Home Week with special meals and decorations.

Town Of Falkville Activities

The Falkville Utility Department put up a beautiful tree at the Falkville Public Library recently, and Mrs. Patricia Ramey planted colorful flowers around town!

The Town of Falkville and area residents appreciate everyone who works to make Falkville more beautiful.

The Town of Falkville appreciates all of our citizens for doing their civic duty and filling out their census forms. The preliminary 2020 Census data is out, and Alabama will keep all seven of its Congressional seats!

Special congratulations go out this week to Falkville High School students Wyatt Tomlin and Owen Teague, who finished fifth in the Major League Fishing U.S. Army High School Fishing Open Tournament on Lake Guntersville. This qualified them to fish the MLF World Finals at Lake Hartwell in South Carolina.

National Day of Prayer Announced

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation.

It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.

The Town of Falkville usually hosts a gathering in the morning and evening. This year the town asks you to join the observance at First Baptist in Hartselle.

You can also pray right where you are to lift up our local, state and national leaders.

God bless America!
