Police arrest one for theft of $20K worth of copper from Cerro Wire

Special to the Enquirer

After about $20,000 in copper went missing from Cerro Wire last month, police have arrested a suspect in the case.

Dec. 3, Hartselle Police Sgt. Chip Reynolds arrested Joshua Keith Tripp, 35, of Pisgah for theft of property, first degree.

Nov. 29, Cerro Wire reported the theft of approximately $20,000 of copper from their business. Reynolds obtained video from the business and alerted patrol officers of the vehicle in question.

According to the HPD, during the night of Dec. 3, officers located the vehicle near Cerro Wire and began observing the vehicle. Officers saw the suspect leave the area and attempted a traffic stop.

Tripp attempted to elude officers, according to the HPD, and wrecked his vehicle on I-65 headed toward Falkville.

Officers determined Tripp was on probation from two jurisdictions.

Bond was set at $20,000 cash.
