Falkville Lady Blue Devils opens the basketball season with buzzer beating win

The Falkville Blue Devils defeated the St. John Paul II Falcons 43-41 on a last-second shot in girls basketball on Monday night.

The Blue Devils, who trailed after every period, outscored the home-standing Falcons 16-12 in the fourth quarter to pull out their first victory of the year.

Sydnee Fitzgerald, who scored a team-high 12 points to lead Falkville, scored seven points in the fourth quarter. Ellie Cate Hill had 10 points, eight rebounds, and four steals while Makenzie Veal added 10 points and six rebounds.

Rhyan Holloway scored a game-high 18 points to lead St. John Paull II (0-1). She was held to just four points in the fourth quarter.

The Blue Devils (1-0) will travel to Whitesburg Christian on Friday night.
