The members of Falkville United Methodist Church hosted their Ash Wednesday service Feb. 26 at 7 p.m.  

The song service was conducted by the Rev. Slade Hogan, and he also read the scripture Matthew 6:1-6 and 16, and he spoke about the meaning of the Ash service.  

Those participating then received the sign of the cross in ash dust on their foreheads.  

Church members will honor St. Patrick March 17 for converting the Irish to Christianity. He used the shamrock leaves to teach the Trinity – God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit.  

Falkville Public Library Announcement  

Falkville Public Library, according to librarian Jenny Asherbranner, has for sale seven cushioned chairs, burgundy in color, that were being used in the conference room. The library is accepting sealed bids on the chairs.  

Anyone interested in making a sealed bid can come by the library Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday until noon. The library closes for lunch from 12 to 1 p.m.  

Cedar Plains Christian Church Activities  

The members of Cedar Plains Christian Church held their Day of Compassion morning worship service, conducted by pastor the Rev. Clint Lee. The special service was held Feb. 23 following the special music program.  

Everyone enjoyed the message and a soup and sandwich lunch in the fellowship hall.  

Donations were taken, with the funds going to the church’s mission project.  

Mt. Zion Baptist Church Events  

Feb. 17 the Mt. Zion Baptist Women’s Missionary Union met in the classroom at 6:30 p.m. Beverly Murphy presided and conducted the study, “Major on Minors in Malachi.”  

The members also discussed the youth mission trip to Guatemala and the D–NOW weekend food.  

March 1 at 7 a.m., Brandon Tew was in charge of the monthly brotherhood breakfast held in the fellowship hall.  

The Children’s Church was conducted by Brianna Johnson and Loretta Gilstrap Feb. 23 at 11:15 a.m.  

The D-NOW weekend for youth in sixth grade through 12th grade was held March 13-15 at the church. This was a joint venture with Tunsel Road Baptist and First Baptist of Falkville youth. The church classes and other groups helped with the meals for the D-NO .
