The Hartselle City Council, at its most recent meeting, approved Mayor Randy Garrison to apply for the Rebuild Alabama Grant, an ALDOT–administered transportation infrastructure grant program for projects of local interest created in the Rebuild Alabama Act of 2019.  

Public Works director Curtis Self said if granted, the funds will go toward the milling, paving and traffic markers for sections of road between Petain Street north to Hickory Street and Railroad Street to Lovelady Street.  

The Rebuild Alabama Grant would be in the amount of $250,000 and would be 100 percent funded with no city match. The estimated cost of the proposed project is $252,436, with the $2,436 overage incurred by the city. 

Rebuild Alabama Grants recipients will be announced Jan. 15, 2020.   

In other business, the council also:  

• adopted Ordinance 1510 to annex a 15-acre tract on Parker Road into the city limits. The parcel adjoins the current city limits on three sides and is within a Priority Two annexation area in the current comprehensive plan. The Planning Commission recommended the annex.  
• adopted Ordinance 1511 to zone the Parker Road property annexed by Ordinance 1510 as AG-1. The current comprehensive plan shows this property ultimately being zoned to single-family residential, but AG is an appropriate transition zone until such time that the owner desires to develop the property. There are currently no development plans aside from a single residence. The Planning Commission recommended the zoning of the property.  
• voted unanimously to suspend the rules and introduce Ordinance 1513 for immediate consideration. The council then adopted the ordinance to establish a limit on the amount of time that campers, boats, RVs, construction dumpsters and similar items may be parked within any public right-of-way. The limit is now no more than one day within any seven-day period.  
• approved an alcohol license for Lions Pride 7, owned by Yashu LLC, to be located in the gas station formerly named Z Trac, located at 1804 E. Main St..  
• approved a bid for the Public Works Department to purchase a 2020 Class 5 dump truck, in the amount of $54,444, from Eddie Preuitt Ford.  

• approved a bid for the Parks & Recreations Department to purchase a tow-behind top dresser to replace 25-year-old equipment, in the amount of $17,809, from Ladd’s.  
• approved budget adjustment for a transfer of $17,000 for the police department to equip two new school protection officers.  
• approved the police department to declare a gun safe as surplus property and post it for sale on govdeals.com.
