Prep roundup: Brewer gets first victory by defeating West Morgan

The Brewer Patriots picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday night with a 65-51 victory over West Morgan.

Brewer, who led 31-28 at halftime, outscored West Morgan 34-23 in the second half to secure the victory.

“We struggled in our first three games but the boys kept working hard,” Brewer coach Jeff Thompson said. “The difference tonight was our offense. We played our best game of the year and it showed in the final score.”

Brewer was led by Connor Hall who finished with 17 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Kris Bramlett added 13 while Matt Kempson had 12.

West Morgan was led by Ashton Owens who had a game-high 21 points.

Brewer (1-3) will travel to Priceville (0-3) on Thursday night. Priceville lost 71-67 to Lawrence County Tuesday night.

Danville 73, East Lawrence 40: KJ Melson led eight Danville scorers with 26 in their victory over East Lawrence.

Wren Cole added 19 for the Hawks while Kohl Randolph had nine.

East Lawrence was led by Peyton Kelly who finished with 12 points while Isaiah Parham and Coleman Garner each had 10.

Danville (1-2) will play Westminster-Oak Mountain at Samford on Thursday.

Girls

Danville 54, East Lawrence 39: Freshman Lauren Hames scored 18 points on six 3-pointers to lead Danville in their win over East Lawrence.

The Hawks’ Emma Broadfoot had 11 points, while Madalyn Holladay and Madison Cartee added nine points each.

Danville hit 11 three-pointers in the game.

East Lawrence was led by Alexandria Jackson’s 13 points, while Devora Izquierdo added nine.

Danville (4-1) plays at Westminster-Oak Mountain on Thursday.

Brewer girls 61, West Morgan 16: Brewer (4-2) was led by Hope West 21 points in their win over West Morgan.

Also scoring in double-digits for the Patriots was Leisha Steger with 11 points and Cailee Couey who finished with 11.

Brewer, who led 32-11 at halftime, used a 20-0 third quarter to coast to victory.

West Morgan was led by Annabelle Pace and Breanna Howard who each had five points.

Brewer will travel to Priceville on Thursday night.

Priceville 58, Lawrence Co. 43: Abigail Garrison picked up her first career double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds in Priceville’s victory over Lawrence Co.

Jenna Walker added 18 points and five assists for Priceville.

Sadie Thompson scored 22 points to lead Lawrence Co.

Priceville (2-1) hosts Brewer (4-2) tonight.
