Chamber holds Youth Glow Night at J.P. Cain

Hundreds of students packed into the J.P. Cain stadium Sept. 18 for Youth Glow Night. The event featured a musical performance by Heather Wallace music and a devotional led by Hartselle’s Coach Bo Culver.

Kassi Hill, administrative and events coordinator at the Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce, said the chamber wanted to start an event for the area youth.

“Depot Days is supposed to be a week-long event. We have our kick-off event Sunday and Monday, but Tuesday and Wednesday were kind of empty,” Hill said. “So we just tried to think of something we could do with the kids, and we came up with the glow-in-the-dark community worship night.”

Through partnerships with local churches, students were able to enjoy a night of worship music, hotdogs and fellowship. Hill said the event seemed to be well received and is something the Chamber hopes to build on next year.

“My favorite part was just watching all the kids come out. They weren’t afraid to worship and dance around and have fun; they weren’t afraid to do that in front of their peers,” Hill said. “I think it’s going to be great to grow on.”

Hill said about 300 teens attended the inaugural event. She said it was something her own daughter seemed to enjoy.
“I think they had a blast. I made my teenager tell me her honest opinion, and she said she thought we should do things like it more often. I think the response was great from the kids,” Hill said.

“We couldn’t have done this without all our churches’ support,” Hill added. “We definitely couldn’t do it without all the community helping us.”
