Massey and Chapel Hill residents enjoy trip

Pam Bryant Owens Holmes of the Massey community and son Dr. John Owens and wife Stacey of the Chapel Hill area will be visiting her son and John’s brother, Dr. Drew Owens, and wife Carson in Pittsburgh, Penn., the last week of August for several days.

Both of their wives are physical therapists. Drew has been in a two-year training program to specialize in pediatrics.

The group will enjoy touring in Pennsylvania.

The Owens family said Drew’s pediatric orthodontist was Dr. Frank Campbell of Decatur and deserves kudos for the type of treatment he gave and for the personality and caring manner that made children and parents appreciate him.

Good wishes go to Drew in his medical career.

Corinth West Methodist Church Activities

Gospel singers, songwriters and fans from Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and Mississippi attended the annual all-day convention singing at Corinth West Methodist Church Aug. 25. Everyone congregated at 10:30 a.m., shared lunch at noon and sang more gospel songs from 1-3 p.m. from the Convention song book.

Tom Powell from the Speer family, who is president of the Alabama Gospel Singing at Snead College, attended and announced the Speer Memorial Singing to be held at Houston Baptist Church in September.

Darrell Maddox is the singing chairman.

Two pianos and a variety of string instruments were featured. The Cumberland School of Music, near Elkmont, had representatives there, and they always have good songs.

The Alabama Gospel Convention Singing will be at Wallace State College Nov. 8-9. Melanie Maddox is president of that event. Melanie’s grandmother, Hettie Jennings Maddox, and grandfather, Doyle Walker, were a composer and singing chairman.

Fairview–The Grace Place Church Events

The members of Fairview–The Grace Place Church hosted a “Recharge Sunday” event Aug. 18. The Rev. Kevin Stamper, pastor of the Restoration Church in Trinity, Fla., was the speaker at the 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. services. The Rev. Stamper is a well-known speaker and best-selling author.

A Beth Moore simulcast will be shown at Fairview–The Grace Place Sept. 28 at 8 a.m. and again at 1:30 p.m. Lunch will be served in the activity hall. Advance tickets will be $15, and at the door they will be $20. Beth Moore is a writer, teacher and inspirational speaker.
