Men: We need to step up
By Todd Barrier
1 Cor 13:11 says, “When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.”
Doesn’t it seem in the society we live in that the value a man has is going down in the mind of people? Look at sitcoms. Men used to be the wise fathers who fixed everything. Now we are the aloof goofs who mess up everything. Men are looked at as immature trouble-makers, with toxic masculinity, who are ruining society. Pretty rough to be a man, huh?
Now let’s go back to the verse above. Maybe the reason the shift has happened in society is because we, as men, have not sought to grow up and give up our childish ways.
Do we spend our free time playing video games or studying the word? Are we lusting after other women or loving our wives the way Christ loved the church? Are we ignoring our children or treating them as the gifts God has given to us? Have we stepped up to lead in our congregations or remained on the sideline to pursue our own hobbies?
Men, this is for you and for me: We need to step up like never before! As our society moves further away from God, we need to move closer. We are sons of the King; let’s act like it.
Let’s remember these words from David to Solomon: “Be strong, act like a man and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations.”
We look forward to seeing you Sunday.
