It was a joyous occasion on Friday October 28th when Danville varsity basketball player Tara Tuck signed her national letter intent to play basketball at the University of Mobile. Tuck is a fiery point guard for Danville, and has been a huge part of the Lady Hawk’s recent success.

Friends, family and coaches gathered in the Danville gymnasium to celebrate with Tuck on her accomplishment. Tuck’s varsity basketball coach Paul Wilson spoke in honor of Tuck. Wilson explained what an accomplishment being able to play in college is and how everyone in attendance helped Tuck in reaching that goal.

Tuck herself is excited to continue her career at Mobile. “Their basketball program is really good and I connected with the coach well.” Tuck said, “When I went for a visit they showed me the classes and more than just the basketball side which is important because college is more than just about basketball. They made me feel like they wanted not just for my basketball skills.”

Danville’s coach Wilson feels that Tara has all the skills to succeed at Mobile. “Tara has a motor that you don’t see in a lot of players. She’s going to bring that energy on the floor.” Wilson said, “I’ve talked with the coach down there and he really likes what she’s going to bring to the game.”

With her signing, Tara became the first play in Danville history to sign to play basketball at a four-year school. “I never thought I was that good because I was really small.” Tuck said. “I’m just blessed to be able to play four more years.”

Tuck feels that what she has learned at Danville will help her achieve greater things at Mobile. “Don’t have an attitude.” Tuck said with a smile. “I can take criticism better now. Coach Wilson taught me how to be a team player and helped me become the player I am.”
