On Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at approximately nine p.m., officers from the Hartselle Police Department were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on the northbound side I65, just north of the Thompson Road exit.  Officers discovered two vehicles were involved and one of the vehicles had overturned, apparently ejecting the driver.  The driver of the overturned vehicle (2002 Chevrolet Avalanche), Melvin Brown, 85 years old of Laceys Spring, AL was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the other vehicle (1998 Ford Explorer), Justin Moore, 34 years old of Hartselle, was transported to Decatur Morgan Hospital via ambulance and was treated and later released from the hospital.  The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
