Does your school, club, civic organization or church group need cash?
If so, then Hartselle Beautification has just the event for you.
"Trash for Cash" will begin at the Depot at 7 a.m. Saturday, April 26 and finish at the City Landfill at noon. Put on your working clothes and join volunteers in a litter collecting competition to see who can turn in the most trash for a cash prize.
Weigh-in will be at the Landfill and the group bringing in the most pounds of litter will win $250 (first prize), $150 (second prize), and $50 (third and fourth prizes).
In coordination with this event, the city of Hartselle will conduct its Spring Clean starting Monday, April 21 and running through Saturday, April 26.
Residents are asked to join in the effort by bringing household items or yard debris to the curb for pickup.
Please use this opportunity to beautify and cleanup Hartselle by starting in your own backyard or storage building.
City workers will focus their efforts on pickup and removal.
Items that can be picked up are yard wastes, appliances, scrap lumber or metal, and asphalt shingles. City workers will not pickup batteries, tires, household garbage, paint, hazardous chemicals, TVs, VCRs, or computers.
These events are being held in conjunction with Keep America's Beautiful Great American Cleanup that unites volunteer hands-on efforts from coast to coast, making a dramatic improvement in the quality of life for communities and creating healthier, cleaner and safer environments across the nation. This year, President George W. Bush is serving as Honorary Chair of the Great American Cleanup.
Local sponsors include the city of Hartselle, Hartselle Utilities, Wal-Mart, Copeland, Whitt's Barbecue, McDonald's, Weaver's Car Wash, Coldwell Banker Team Hartselle Real Estate, Community Bank, Charles Howse State Farm Insurance, Chad Hughey State Farm Insurance, Dr. James Joy, Dr. Douglas Sittason, and all the Friends of HBA.
