Hartselle, Priceville, Falkville and Brewer had individuals or their team qualify for the state cross country meet at Oakville Indian Mounds Park Sat., Nov. 8

Both the Hartselle boys’ and girls’ teams qualified for state. The Hartselle girls finished eighth overall with a score of 251 and an average time of 21:41. The Hartselle boys finished 10^th overall with a score of 281 and an average time of 18:12.

Junior Abigail Davis finished first for Hartselle and fourth in the 6A girls 5K with a time of 19:16 and was awarded All-State honors. Billie Shelton finished 26^th, 20:39; Reagan Bowling finished 83^rd, 22:20; Macie Holder finished 93^rd, 22:43; Madison Clemons finished 114^th, 23:21; Jessica Hickerson finished 123^rd, 23:42; Jordan Hickerson finished 135^th, 24:05; Brantley Owens finished 144^th, 24:34; Mary Elizabeth Adams finished 151^st, 24:44 and Ivy Buchanan finished 162^nd, 25:44.

Hartselle’s head coach Kenny Lopez said he thought the race went well overall.

“I thought things went well for most of our runners on Saturday,” Lopez said. “We started the Cross Country program five years ago and qualified for the state meet as a girls’ team for the first time three years ago. Our eighth place finish is the best finishing place we’ve had so far.”

Lopez said he was very proud of Davis and her accomplishments.

“I don’t think Abigail Davis would say that Saturday’s state meet was her best race,” Lopez said. “However, she raced well and a fourth place finish is a great accomplishment. We are proud to see her attain All-State honors for the second year in a row.”

Senior Johnathan Duncan finished first for Hartselle and 19^th overall with a time of 16:59. Charlie Ord finished 62^nd, 18:04; Timothy Ammons finished 68^th, 18:11; Addison Zanda finished 90^th, 18:36; Chase Barrett 122^nd, 19:06; Tyler Dolbeer finished 130^th, 19:13; Liam Davis finished 132^nd, 19:14; Eric Rabadan finished 151^st, 19:35; Matt Green finished 169^th, 20:11 and Preston Smith finished 171^st, 20:12.

Lopez said the boys were not satisfied with their overall performance.

“The boys’ team was a little disappointed with their 10^th place finish,” Lopez said. “We had some younger runners really step up and run well, but we didn’t have our top five runners where they needed to be. Senior John Duncan is to be commended for his finish. He started farther back in position than we wanted, but he ended up passing around 30 runners in the last two mils of the race to finish 19^th.”

Lopez said the team is already looking forward to next season.

“Our seniors will be missed next year, but we have a solid core of runners coming back with experience in big meets,” Lopez said. “We are really excited about the future.”

Falkville had three boys and one girl qualify for state. Drake Hamilton finished first for Falkville and 24^th overall with a time of 18:19. Brian Bradford finished 66^th with a time of 19:40 and Blake Bradford finished 96^th with a time of 20:47. Falkville’s only female runner, Casey Barfield, finished 47^th with a time of 23:13.

Priceville’s boys team and one female runner qualified for state. Jenna Cowart finished 85^th with a time of 24:17. Trey Lambert finished first for Priceville’s boys and 93^rd overall with a time of 20:19. Aaron Fowler finished 94^th, 20:24; Brett Harrell finished 108^th, 21:18; Hunter Bailey finished 109^th, 21:22; Riley Goodwin finished 110^th, 21:26; Zavier Cagle finished 118^th, 22:13, Montana Henderson finished 124^th, 23:54 and Trent Holmes finished 126^th, 25:21.

Brewer had two boys and two girls qualify for the state meet. Jamie Jones finished 80^th with a time of 18:24 and Matthew Ellow finished 99^th with a time 18:42. Trina Badger finished 51^st with a time 21:35 and Laura Dube finished 64^th with a time of 22:01.
