OUR OPINION: Thank you, veterans
Veterans, this week is for you.
To honor Veterans Day is next Tuesday, Hartselle and Morgan County are celebrating with nearly a weeklong worth of events. Starting today (Wednesday), several elementary, junior high and high schools in our area will have a number of Veterans Day programs to honor you.
Here’s a few of the highlights:
• This includes the annual Hartselle Junior High School Veterans Day program, which will be held in the Pettey Center. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. Veterans may arrive at 9:30 a.m. and park in the Pettey Center parking lot. The master of ceremonies will be John Frank Parker.
• The City of Hartselle would like to invite you to the fourth annual Veterans Day Parade, Sat., Nov. 8, at 11 a.m. This year’s theme is “Welcome Home Brother” the theme used by veterans returning home from Vietnam 50 years ago.
• The JROTC program at AP Brewer high school will be having a Veteran’s Day program on Mon. Nov. 10. All active and retired veterans and their families are encouraged to attend. We will have a Color Guard, Hat Laying ceremony for each branch, and salute to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and performances by the Brewer high Chorus and Band.
• American Legion Post 15 in Decatur will honor all veterans and active duty military personnel with a Veterans Day Parade and Program at the Morgan County Veterans Memorial in Priceville Tuesday. The parade will form on North Bethel Road at 10 a.m. and the program will be conducted in the memorial park pavilion at 11 a.m. The public is invited.
These are just a few of the many events this week. There’s no way we can express our gratitude for what you sacrificed for us.
