Funeral for Benjamin Scott Gamel, 52, of Flora, Ind., was Sat., Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. at New Hope Community Church, in Flora, Ind., with Pastor Lynn Dotson officiating. Burial followed at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora.

The Rev. Gamble died unexpectedly Monday morning, Sept. 15, 2014, in the IU Health Arnett ER, Lafayette, Ind.

He was born April 22, 1962, in Jasper, to his mother, Linda Lambert Gamel and his father, Benjamin Gamel.  He graduated from Morgan County High School, in 1980, and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Atlanta Christian College in East Point, Ga., in 1986. His marriage was on July 11, 1987, in Columbus, Ind., to Vicki L. Bryant, and she survives.

Scott was the senior pastor of New Hope Community Church, Flora, for the past nine years. He had a passion for outreach and missions, locally and globally. He loved evangelism, spreading the good Lord’s word to those around him, and passionately believed in God’s amazing grace. He loved his church and church family.

Priorto coming to Flora, he worked for the Wal-Mart Corporation in London, Ky., and Opelika, for 10 years, as head of loss prevention.

He was a former member and past president of the Flora Rotary Club, and was active in the Carroll County Ministerial Association. He was an avid reader, enjoyed the Andy Griffith Show, and old movies. He was an avid University of Alabama football fan. He loved his family so much, and will be dearly missed by all. Our loss is his gain, as he is now in the presence of Jesus, his Lord and savior.

Surviving with his wife are six sons, Benjamin T. and Samuel B. (fiancée Lindsey Pickett) Gamel, both of Flora, Nicholas S. Gamel of Columbus, Jacob L., Lucas A. and Grayson L. Gamel, all at home in Flora; his mother, Linda Lambert Gamel of Jasper, Ala.; his father and stepmother, Benjamin and Linda Gamel of Boaz, Ala.; brothers, Jon (Karla) Gamel of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Bryant Gamel of Birmingham.

Friends may call Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. at New Hope Community Church, 687 E. 50 N., Flora, IN 46929. His funeral service will be at the church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Lynn Dotson officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora.

Memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope Community Church.
