The Brewer High School Thespians drama club is presenting “Is There A Doctor In The House?”, a bluegrass, down-home country musical comedy adapted from Moliere by Tim Kelly and music by Bill Francoeur, Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. in the Brewer High School Auxiliary Gymnasium.

Admission to the production is $5. The musical is under the direction of Kathy Minor Campbell and Jennelle Yancey.

The play is about four quack physicians devoted to the Grease Gulch Hippopotamus Oath, “If you can’t convince ‘em, confuse ‘em.”

The cowboy-country comedy features rapid-fire jokes, sight gags and slapstick comedy.

Lucy Canary, played by Emily Motes, is the mayor’s daughter. She loves Lester Goodbe, a likeable cowboy played by William Amato. Lucy’s father, Mayor Caesar Canary played by River Shadix, insists that she marry Otis Lackginger, a rich, old coot played by Michael Hale. Lucy pretends to lose her voice to stall the marriage, causing everyone to search for a doctor to cure her.

The action includes an onstage “operation,” in which the doctors take it all out and put it all back.

Other roles include Tom Sawyer Huckleberry Finn played by Dakota Yarbrough, Widow Stockade played by Maela Nuss, Hepzibah Canary played by Hannah Hickman, Blossom played by Jessika Holmes, Sheriff played by Caleb Montgomery, Preacher played by Tracy Amato, Dr. Pilpurge by Tanner Lindsey, Mrs. Cornsilk by Kaitlin McCaleb, Mrs. Cornstarch played by Ali O’Neal, Marjorie by Dominque Hudson, Snag by Micah Carlton, Miss Strict by Lauren Short, Alberta by Ashley Templeton, Cassandra by Haliegh Vinzant, Tallulah by Stephanie Manous, Dr. Abracadabra by Drew Trotter, Gypsy Hagg by Peyton Bittle, Kynsi Barnard and Amanda Flimflam by Courtney Spivey.
